His Brakes Failed at 145 MPH, Stock Bottom End 302 FULL SEND

One of the things that’s so appealing about racing is that each and every pass has the opportunity for something new to happen. You never know when you’re going to catch a surprising win, set a new personal best, or maybe even break some sort of community record. However, on the opposite side of that coin, the unexpected situation that pops up might just be something that’s slightly terrifying. In this case, we check out a driver by the name of Chris Watson who has been racing for what he says to be about 25 years and he continues that even in all of his time making passes down the strip, he certainly has never had anything like this happen to him before.

All of the action comes at us from zMax Dragway in Charlotte as Watson can be found pushing his stock bottom end 302 powered Ford Mustang down the track. It’s pretty substantial news that the VS Racing turbocharged car is able to crank out 900 hp on the factory, quarter-century old engine that Chris seems to almost not be able to believe himself, however, on top of this impressive milestone, the story that really blew up this past weekend was what he did with that power.

If you follow along in the video down below, you’ll be able to tune in closely with the moment that transpired after the car lost its brakes and ended up soaring straight into the gravel pit at the end of the track following a 145mph pass. Luckily, Chris was fine as his first words after the accident would be an inquiry about if he won. The car didn’t really sustain very much damage at all, either, even to the point where Chris decided to turn up the adrenaline a little bit and crank that thing out to more RPM to try and get a better pass under his belt which he certainly did find a way to do. We love the attitude like that and with a car to match, the scene has set itself up to be a pretty entertaining throwdown.

Chris tells us that the car certainly creates quite the amount of controversy online as there’s a fair amount of love and hate on both sides of the build with this one as many can’t believe the numbers that are being made on such an old stock bottom end but that doesn’t seem to bother those onboard with this Mustang as they’re just out there doing the best that they can, trying to set new personal bests and maybe send the car into the 8-second range, if they’re lucky.
