Hyundai Genesis Coupe Gets Close To 1,000 HP For SEMA

Hyundai’s four-cylinder Genesis Coupe will be discontinued once the 2015 model year rolls around but the Korean automaker plans to give it one last hurrah with a wild concept pushing out almost 1,000 horsepower. The concept will be presented at next month’s SEMA show and is being developed with Chicago-based tuner Blood Type Racing (BTR).

Extracting almost 1,000 horsepower from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is no easy task, but BTR has stepped up to the challenge. Key among its upgrades will be increased bore for a larger capacity, a huge turbocharger, a nitrous kit, new intakes and exhausts, and plenty of cooling mods. A six-speed manual and rear-wheel-drive layout will remain.

BTR will also treat the vehicle with an aggressive makeover, which it says will give it an “underground racing” appearance. One of the key exterior upgrades will be a wide-body kit developed by Japanese kit designer Kei Miura. It will make the Genesis Coupe by BTR up to 60 millimeters wider than stock.

For the interior, BTR will add new gauges, racing seats, harnesses and even a roll cage. Many of these items will come from motorsport suppliers Sabelt and Cusco.

The Genesis Coupe by BTR is actually the third modified Hyundai that’s been confirmed for this year’s SEMA. Another will be a 708-hp Sonata by Bisimoto and the third that we know of will be a 550-hp Genesis by ARK Performance.

This year’s SEMA runs from November 4-7. For more of our coverage on the annual tuning fest, head to our dedicated hub.
