Jamie Hancock Takes Us For A Ride In His 200 MPH Radial Tire Pro Mod Firebird At Lights Out 10!

Sometimes it takes minutes, even hours to tell a story, and sometimes 17 seconds is actually a few seconds too long. When you’re talking about one of the baddest nitrous-fed radial cars on the planet, you just need about 4 seconds to get your point across.

Jamie Hancock was one of the first guys to show up in a Pro Mod style chassis on radials. He made the trip from the small town of Opelika (pronounced Opah-Like-Uh) Alabama down to South Georgia Motorsports Park in his antiquated C5 Corvette and was basically a sideshow attraction his first time out.

However, as the youngest pro mod world champion in the now-defunct ADRL, Hancock is no stranger to going fast, it just took him a few times down the track to get his combination figured out. Going from massive slicks to tiny radials, especially being one of the first to do so, there was quite a bit of trial and error, but Hancock showed up at the Outlaw Street Car Reunion in Memphis just a couple of months later and actually went to the semifinals, where a burnt piston ended his run. However, Hancock had arrived and everybody took notice that the gangly looking Pro Mod was actually a contender on radials.

As the class progressed, it became harder and harder for Hancock to keep up. Even the relatively light Corvette was fighting to keep pace with the more powerful blower and turbo cars, to Hancock parked it and took over his dad’s Firebird, pulling the slicks off of it and bolting radials in their place. A more modern car, built lighter and with better components, the Firebird put Hancock back into the thick of the battle, and as you can see in this video from FuelTech’s Facebook page, he needs just 3.7 seconds to reach just a hair short of 200 MPH. That means this video has almost 13 seconds of wasted space!
