Jeg Coughlin Jr. Kicks Off Retirement Tour With Dominant Victory

When it comes to the world of motorsports competition, there are few brands as recognizable as JEGS. The bright yellow logo has stood for parts and performance for years. This year will mark the retirement of the namesake of JEGS, Jeg Coughlin Jr. who also happens to be the son of the founder.

When any competitor retires, they want to be able to go out on top. Therefore, we traditionally will hear retirement announcements come after the season. Nobody wants their last go of things to be a low point on the roller coaster that is a competitive career. It seems like Coughlin Jr. isn’t quite buying into that frame of mind. In fact, he has announced his retirement before the season got underway.

As the 2020 racing season has officially kicked off, Coughlin Jr. looks like he’s going to make the most of his retirement tour. In fact, he’s picking up right where he left off last year. After capping off the 2019 season with victory in Pomona, giving Jeg the second place in points, 2020 would have him starting off with a dominant performance on the same track.

Below, we watch as Coughlin Jr. is beaten off of the line in the final round of Pro Stock. However, the car and driver combo manages to come around strongly, putting a decent-sized gap on Jason Line. In fact, the final round would seem to have Coughlin pulling a trick from his sleeve as it would be the low ET of the whole event as he blasted through the quarter in 6.52-seconds at 210.8 mph.

Following the event, NHRA cameras caught up with Jeg as we see below. They were able to inquire what some of his favorite memories from racing have been. He also took the time to thank the team for the strong effort that they’ve invested in his success.
