Jeg Coughlin Wins $75,000 In Pro Stock At Doorslammer Nationals
There were a ton of matchups that we could talk about from this past weekend’s Drag Illustrated Doorslammer Nationals. Some of our favorites, though, just so happened to come in the final rounds. How much better could a race get when the storyline is juicy and a class win is on the line as well?
We’ll tell you just how that could happen – throw $75,000 in the mix with it all. That was exactly what was delivered with the Pro Stock class finals.
The race would play host to an iconic rivalry. In one corner, we find Greg Anderson, the man behind the wheel of the Summit Racing machine. In the other, we find a familiar face in Jeg Coughlin Jr.
Jeg has been known to make his presence felt behind the wheel of a Pro Stock machine. In this one, JEGS and Summit were not only competitors in the auto parts marketplace. They would also become competitors in between the walls. The drivers represent two of the winningest operations in Pro Stock with KB Racing and Elite Power.
In any situation, you have to love a bout like this. When the drivers pull up to the line, everything else is forgotten about. There is no past. There is no future. It’s all about now and just racing another driver like any other pass.
After gaining an advantage with a .032 reaction time to Anderson’s .040, Coughlin would maintain the lead down the track. When the boards lit, Coughlin would edge out Anderson. Coughlin’s 6.484-seconds at 212.36 mph in his RJ Race Cars JEGS Camaro was enough to take down Anderson’s 6.485 at 213.81 in the Summit machine.
By following along with the video below, we watch as the margin comes down to mere fractions of a second. Ladies and gentlemen, this is why we race!
