Josh Klugger Cracks Off a 3.98 ON 275 Drag Radials – PRO 275!
This weekend marked the “Unofficially Official” kick off to the racing season in the southeast as small tire racers and fans from all over the nation made their annual pilgrimage to South Georgia Motorsports Park. Each spring – or technically late winter, though the conditions this weekend were far more spring-like than wintry – Donald Long throws a huge party where some awesome racing breaks out, this being the ninth year for his Lights Out small tire extravaganza.
Pro275 brings out some of the baddest rides on the planet with the “shemdium” sized 275 drag radial – there’s also the smaller 235 and the larger 315 radial tire – to throw down and see just how quickly they can cover the sticky 1/8th mile track surface. The car in this video is already the quickest and fastest radial car in the world on the quarter mile, but the Fiscus/Klugger Racing team wanted to establish themselves as the quickest through the 1/8th as well. With a sticky track surface and some cool, though admittedly humid air, the conditions were as good as we’re likely to see for a while, the team turned up the ProLine Racing powerplant and prayed to the traction gods that it would stick, and it did
.
The gods answered and the gorgeous blue Fox Body blistered the SGMP surface, covering the 660 feet in just 3.983 seconds at 197.71 MPH, which is the 275 world record. The pass was basically picture perfect, the car hardly varying from the center of the groove and keeping the nose on the ground, something that hasn’t always been the case as SGMP during these events.
Congratulations goes out to Jeff Klugger and Josh Fiscus as well as their whole team for knocking another beautiful pass out of the park and claiming another record for their operation. Look for more potential record breaking going on when the show rolls back into Georgia for the fall version of this race, No Mercy.
