Keelan Harvick Joins Dad At The Finish Line To Celebrate Michigan Win

Kevin Harvick is having an awesome season so far in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, racking up a season high 7 wins and 17 top-5 finishes. After 23 races so far, he and his #4 Busch Light/Mobil 1 Ford rides in second place behind Kyle Busch despite winning one more race than his season-long rival.

Harvick’s team had his Fusion set on kill yesterday in Michigan, allowing Kevin to lead more than half of the 200 laps while pulling away to an effortless 3+ second gap on the field by the time the checkered flag waved. The win, Harvick’s 44th, tied him with Hall of Famer Bill Elliott for the 17th most among NASCAR drivers.

Speaking of the checkered flag, Kevin shared a very special moment with his son Keelan after the race. Driving back to the start/finish line, Harvick brought six year old Keelan out to do a little work, saving Dad a few steps by trotting across the track to grab the black and white for the victory lap. While the throngs of fans cheered him on, Keelan looked as if he’d done this a thousand times, fetching the flag and waving it proudly as he walked back to dad Kevin’s waiting car.

Kevin lifted the youngster into the car and took him with him around the 2-mile oval, Keelan hanging halfway out the window and clutching the checkered flag as dad eased around the track to the fans’ delight.

Finally they would head to Victory Lane, where the celebration surely continued for the team and the family.

Harvick and Busch have dominated the season thus far, winning more than half the races between them and running away with the points chase. While only 62 points separate the top two, third place runner Martin Truex Jr sits a full 144 points behind Busch, while Kyle’s brother Kurt and Clint Bowyer round out the top five even farther back. The tour head back to the always exciting Bristol Motor Speedway next weekend for the Bass Pro Shops/NRA Night Race.
