Keith Haney Sacrificing Pistons to the ‘Piston Goddess’
Oklahoman Keith Haney has never been shy about leaning on his nitrous-huffing hotrods when the time comes, even knowing that can lead to some melted pistons, or worse, in his big-inch powerplants.
At ADRL Dragstock held at Gateway Motorsports Park late last season, Keith took to the starting in “Notorious”, his Pro Nitrous Camaro. Keith blasted to a 2.54 330′ time, which would typically put him on a mid-3.70 run if all had gone well. However, right around halftrack, the monster cubic inch engine decided enough was enough and popped back at Haney, flashing flames out of the hood and refusing to work anymore. Of course, Keith is never one to shy away from doing whatever it takes to get back on track, and he wasted no time in getting his backup bullet – the engine out of “Enigma”, the Radial vs the World Camaro that is a virtual twin to “Notorious” – dropped between the framerails so he can be ready for the opening round of eliminations.
This is the same guy who stuck “Enigma” into the wall at South Georgia Motorsports Park during last year’s Lights Out 7, only to work feverishly with his crew to tape, zip-tie and otherwise fasten the car back together, and he did so in time to make the first round call there as well. That, my friends, is dedication!
