Kye Kelley Shocker vs Amp Twin Turbo Mustang at Tucson Street Outlaws No Prep
Following the huge turnout and response to the Bristol No Prep event episode, Discovery Channel took the show west and rolled into Tucson Dragway for another race with a nice fat check for the winner. With another huge group of stars from the show as well as some of the biggest names in no prep racing on the property, that $40,000 check would certainly be earned, with the winner almost guaranteed to have to take out some heavy hitters on the way to the win.
Street Outlaws New Orleans star Kye Kelley has long been known as having one of the quickest street-raced cars in the nation, but he’s also made quite a reputation for himself on the track in the no-prep world. No prep events focus on recreation the limited traction found on the street, but let’s be honest here, after a couple of rounds of Pimp Juice burnouts and hard launches, these “unprepped” tracks become pretty dang sticky, so it’s impressive to see a racer who’s able to win on the street and the track.
For this race, Kye was paired with a car that has all the pieces in place to give the Shocker a run for it’s money. Big tires and a twin turbocharged powerplant certainly lend themselves to laying it down on the track, but I don’t think this guy was ready for the buzzsaw that he ran into when he drew Kye. After a pair of big smoky burnouts to lay down some fresh rubber, the cars stage up and wait on the green light. A moment later, this race was over before it really started.
The Shocker planted the rear tires and jumped out to a massive gap that you could have driven a bus through and never looked back, leaving the Amp Mustang in it’s dust. Kye would go on to take home the win and the $40,000 that came with it, plus a pile of bragging rights to go with his pile of cash.
