Kye Kelley’s Shocker Pulls HUGE Wheelstand VS Keith Haney’s ENIGMA Nitrous Camaro!

At Donald Long’s small tire blowout Lights Out 8 held this past February at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Adel, Georgia, Street Outlaws New Orleans star Kye Kelley bolted a pair of ultra-sticky radial on his Shocker Camaro and went to war with some of the biggest names in radial racing. Kelley fought wheel stand issues all weekend, most likely due to his car being setup to have a bit of slippage with slicks vs the radial’s trademark dead hook. A different torque converter and a rear gear change may help solve those issues in the future, though we are sure it’s hard to tame that much Musi-built horsepower.

Kye did manage to qualify for the 32 car field with a 4.14 ET from his nitrous-huffing hotrod, but his wheel stand woes returned in the first round against pro mod standout Keith Haney, wheeling a nitrous Camaro of his own. When the cars launched, Kye’s nose headed immediately skyward while Haney’s car ripped through the eighth mile with the candles lit to take the win with a solid 3.92 elapsed time. While the race certainly didn’t go as Kelley had hoped, just qualifying for one of the quickest 32 car fields in class history proved his car’s potential.

If Kelley decides to give Radial vs the World another try, hopefully he will have enough data to adjust his combo to keep the nose on the ground. His massive Pat Musi engine should provide plenty of power to get him qualified in the field. With the unpredictable nature of the class, all it takes is some solid consistent passes and your opponent to be swinging for the fences to go a few rounds! Until then, we’ll keep an eye our for Kye in the no-prep world, a stark contrast to the small tire scene.
