Larry Larson Lays Down A Brutal 3.96 @ 196mph Pass
Larry Larson is one of the most successful Drag Week competitors in the history of the grueling week-long event. However, don’t let that lull you into thinking Larson only runs Drag Week. The other 51 weeks out of the year, Larry is either racing somewhere or working on his truck or those rides of his customers at Larson Race Cars. This year, Larson has made quite a name for himself in the world of no prep, taking home a couple of wins and going deep into eliminations at some of the biggest events in the no prep scene.
He made the short trip from his home base in Oak Grove, Missouri down to Tulsa, Oklahoma to Tulsa Raceway Park, where the guys from Urban Hillbilly caught up with Larry making a hit in his ridiculous Drag Week S10. This truck, for those who don’t know, is the best parts of a twin turbo pro mod mixed with a completely street legal and street drivable pickup that Larry can fire up and drive anywhere, as long as there are fuel stops along the way. The truck is powered by a twin turbocharged ProLine engine and isn’t short of an outright pro mod in very many ways, including quarter mile performance. The truck has been as quick as 5.89 at just under 240 MPH and likely has a little more in it as Larson was off the gas just before the finish line on that run.
At Tulsa, they were only running the 1/8th mile, but that didn’t stop Larson from turning up the boost and putting the S10 on the wheelie bars for a couple hundred feet en route to a beautiful 3.96 second elapsed time at 196 MPH, some great numbers for a truck that can be, and often is, driven on the street. That’s one impressive street car… errrr truck!
