Leah Pritchett and Papa John Schnatter Face Off For Charity in Chicago
Team Speed Society Racing driver and general all around badass Leah Pritchett extended her lead over her sponsor “Papa” John Schnatter in the latest renewal of their charity rivalry at the NHRA Fallen Patriots Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, Illinois. The driver and sponsor had met three times previously, with Leah relying on her years of experience to take all three wins against Schnatter, a relative newcomer to the track.
Let’s not be too hard on John, though, as he is still learning the procedures and only gets to hit the track every few weeks, where Leah has years of experience under her belt and is on the track more often than not during racing season. To prove he’s gaining experience, Schnatter did take a win over Pritchett in pre-race time runs, proving that he is making strides in nailing down the procedures and getting the most out of his prized split bumper Camaro. However, when it came time for the run that counted, the pressure got to the pizza magnate, who unfortunately hit the throttle before setting the transbrake, sending the F-Body downtrack before the tree came down. The mistake was especially painful for John, as Leah was there for the taking after smoking the tires in her Drag Pack Challenger.
Of course, the big winner for the day was the Infinite Hero Foundation, who was the recipient of the $20,000 purse, regardless of who took the win on the track. The foundation was founded by Terry Chandler, who lost her battle with cancer just days before the race. Chandler personally funded the Infinite Hero funny car driven by Jack Beckman as well as the Make a Wish funny car driven by Tommy Johnson Jr, both of whom join Pritchett under the DSR Racing banner. With a little more experience under his belt with each outing, we believe it’s only a matter of time before Papa John takes down his hired driver and notches his first win against Leah.
