Leah Pritchett wins her THIRD race of 2017 in Houston
Leah Pritchett continued her stellar 2017 campaign, taking home the third win through 5 races in Top Fuel. Pritchett started the weekend with a solid qualifying effort, going into Sunday’s eliminations from the #6 position with a 3.74 ET that was just two hundredths of a second from Clay Millican’s #1 elapsed time.
Rolling into eliminations, Leah’s national record-holding Papa John’s Pizza machine laid down another 3.74 to take the round 1 win over Scott Palmer. Pritchett then laid a gate job on Doug Kalitta in round to take out Kalitta’s quicker 3.75 elapsed time with her 3.76, sending her to the semifinals to face DSR teammate Antron Brown. This time Antron got out off the line first, but Pritchett drove around him on the top end to race her way into the final round.

The final frame was one of the best races of the day. Both cars laid down 3.78 second ET’s, with Pritchett’s 0.049 reaction time making up the bulk of the 0.015-second margin of victory versus Torrence’s slightly slower 0.058 light. The win returns Pritchett to the top of the season championship points, with her DSR teammates Brown and Tony Schumacher in second and third respectively. The tour stops next at ZMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC for the Four-Wide Nationals, one of the most exciting events on the tour annually.
