Lights Out 9 Live Feed – Catch All The Action here!
Qualifying continues today from Lights Out 9 at South Georgia Motorsports Park. The annual small tire extravaganza has once again drawn racers from all over the country to the rural facility that hosts two of the biggest small tire races each year, Lights Out in the spring and No Mercy in the fall. Promoter Donald Long and his Duck X Productions crew draw a massive crowd that packs out the expansive track, with tonight’s post-work week crowd expected to pack the stands around the time the sun goes down.
It’s no secret that the track crew has struggled to bring the track surface up to par, something that’s an absolute necessity for these extremely-high powered cars on the smallest tires in all of drag racing. However, they made huge strides on Thursday, with several cars ripping off sub-4 second passes including a 3.88 elapsed time from small tire legend Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson in testing and a 3.85 hit from the monster flame-throwing nitrous hotrod of Oklahoman Keith Haney to take the #1 spot in the first round of qualifying last night under the lights.
Look for improvements to continue as the sun continues to dry out the facility following a soggy start to the week that left the track weeping liquid and wreaking havoc on the early test sessions.
