Loud Supra Anti-Lag Prank at the Mall!
For years, one of the major issues with trying to race turbocharged cars at the track was building boost on the starting line. Thanks to some weird engine things that I don’t fully understand, an engine without a load on it will not spool a turbocharger to build boost, meaning without some help, even the most badass turbo cars in the world would leave the line with practically zero boost.
However, as gearheads tend to do, somebody out there figured out if you use a modified two-step concept that causes unburned gas to fill the exhaust briefly, which then ignites due to the inherent temps in the exhaust itself, causing what amounts to a fireball that pulses through the turbocharger, spinning it up to build boost while the flames often extend to, and out of, the exhaust. They named this system, appropriately, anti-lag.
A side-effect of this is the trademark “banging” and often huge fireballs seen from drag cars just before they stage and launch at the track. While the whole process looks and sounds brutal, it’s apparently not as hard on parts as one would think. If you’ve never experienced this in person, it does often sound very much like rapid-fire gunshots and if you’re not expecting it, it can scare the crap out of you.
Playing on that reaction, these guys decided to cruise the mall and hit the anti-lag on some unsuspecting shoppers. As you might expect, being bombarded with the sounds of automatic gunfire while walking through the parking lot is a little unnerving, and some of the victims actually cover their heads and take off looking for cover.
We have to warn you guys who are thinking about reproducing this prank, you may want to rethink that. With shooting going on in public places like malls, this could really trigger some traumatic responses in people that may in turn end up suing you, and we know full well how that’s likely to turn out in today’s society. Just use some common sense when approaching a prank like this to avoid situations like that.
