Machining 101: How to drill a square hole at home without special tools.

If you find yourself constantly in a shop or garage, you will probably come up against many situations that are simply obscure and need a creative method of problem-solving to get to the bottom of it.

This time, we figure out how one would go about drilling out a square hole because, as you know, no drill bit alone would be able to get this job done.

In a process known as “broaching,” you can essentially drill square holes into whatever material that you need to get the job at hand completed.
