Man Drops Off New Corvette For Recall, Technicians Drive It Double The Speed Limit

When you hear all the different stories that come out about various dealerships from across the country that represent a variety of different automakers, it almost can make you a little bit apprehensive to take your car to the dealer, especially if your set of wheels is a performance-oriented ride that most people don’t get the opportunity to get behind the wheel of. Let’s just say that there have been plenty of stories about technicians to get the opportunity and seize the moment, really hounding on some of these cars that they probably shouldn’t be doing much more than the speed limit in, if they should really be driving them at all.

For John Martin, would become a reality as he took a Chevrolet Corvette in for some recall work surrounding a software issue for the airbag that had to be simply reprogrammed. It was a short job that should’ve taken any more than 10 minutes and probably isn’t that we would think would call for a test drive to make sure it’s corrected, but even if it were, the way that Martin says this test drive went is really unacceptable in any case.

As the car was set in valet mode and had a performance data recorder along with a camera mounted in the front grille, the owner would be able to see the entire experience unfold as the technician would go for a test drive in the car, banging up to the 90 mph mark and passing it multiple times, including once in a 45 mph zone. When the owner of the dealership was approached by it, he wrote the whole thing off as a “total joke” and wouldn’t even give the story credit. Law enforcement says that some reckless driving charges may be in the works but it is truly too early to tell at this point.
