Massive Waves Hit Oil Rig
There are several reasons oil is such a valuable commodity, and one of the main reasons is that is so hard to acquire. Removing oil from hundreds and even thousands of feet below the earth’s surface requires tremendous amounts of labor and skill, which drives the price up.
With the majority of the planet being covered by water, offshore exploration is a key part of the oil industry, and rigs like the one you see in the video below are used to find and retrieve oil from areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Being in the ocean, these rigs are susceptible to the wrath of the weather, which often causes massive rolling swells that batter the platforms, causing them to tilt and sway with the waves, dancing precariously on the ocean’s surface.
Watch as this rig is beaten and tossed about by the waves caused by an approaching storm on the North Sea. Would you be able to ride out a storm like this in the middle of the open water?
