Millican Blasts To Personal Best ET & Speed Thanks to Grubnic Expertise and Talented Young Crew.

Clay Millican and his crew chief David Grubnic just fired a warning shot to all those looking forward to the Countdown to the Championship. Lined up alongside fuel legend Chris Karamesines in the first round of eliminations at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals, Millican uncorked a stellar 3.655 elapsed time at 330.23 MPH from his Great Clips/Parts Plus sponsored dragster, both of which are personal bests for the Drummonds, TN native. The run stands as the second quickest pass in the sport’s history, just .015 off the record set by Speed Society teammate Leah Pritchett during the second qualifying session.

Millican’s incremental times were nearly identical to Pritchett’s 3.640 run, clicking off the timers at .822 at sixt foot, 2.066 at 330′, 2.925 at 292 through the eighth en route to the 1,000′ mark. When discussing the run, which came as a bit of a shock to most being during round one, Clay said Grubnic and the crew have been trying something things in Saturday qualifying that they have been refining to use on raceday once the Countdown starts following the US Nationals. “They’ve been doing some things during the qualifying sessions on Saturday to implement on Sunday once we got it dialed in, we decided it was ready to put those plan into action,” Millican shared, though he was understandably mum about the details of what specifically Grubnic has been working on.

Whatever it is, it worked well, as the pass looked to be nearly perfect from beginning to end. Clay, as always, is quick to point to his crew for making this run a reality. “These guys are young, but man they’re all just so good at what they do. Those guys are the reason we are able to do what we do, no doubt!” and excited Millican of the guys that make up his crew. Clay advances to the 2nd round where he will face a tough opponent in Tony Schumacher, the winningest driver in class history. This is a great confidence booster for the team, who just got their first win at Bristol earlier this season.
