Millican Kicks Off 2018 With World Record Blast

Team Speed Society Racing driver Clay Millican has wasted no time in kicking off the 2018 season in spectacular fashion! While still in qualifying for the very first event of the year, the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, Millican wheeled his David Grubnic-tuned top file dragster to a new national elapsed time record.

Knowing his Great Clips/Parts Plus sponsored DSR Racing chassis was qualified solidly in the show, Grubnic dropped a “if-it-holds-it’ll-be-a-record” tuneup into the car and strapped Clay into the driver’s seat to do what he does.

As soon as Millican stomped on that loud pedal, car blitzed the Auto Club Raceway surface, covering the first 60’ in just .809 seconds, nearly two full hundredths quicker than the next-closest competitor’s short time. The 330’ clocks came next, just 2.047 seconds into the record run. Millican cleared the first 660’ in a scintillating 2.897 seconds at 296 MPH.

After clearing the 1/8th mile cones, the car bit hard into the Southern California track surface and screamed through the 1,000 foot traps in just 3.628 seconds at 322 MPH, knocking Clay’s own 3.63-second record run from Gateway Raceway in late 2017 from atop the heap and inching the class ever-closer to the 3.50’s, an number than seemed impossible just a couple of years ago.

With these kinds of numbers this early in the year, it seems almost inevitable that somebody will crash through the 3.60 barrier and rip off the sports first 3.5-second elapsed time. With this team producing such stellar numbers on such a consistent basis, I would have to put Clay and company squarely atop the betting boards as the team to break what could be the last significant barrier we will see fall in the class in our lifetimes.
