More Than Meets the Eye in This Collection of Bizarre Crashes
I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out what’s going on in this video, but I have to admit, I found it unnerving for a couple of reasons.
This is obviously the product of some mediocre-quality CCTV (which is easier to convincingly edit than higher quality footage) and some clever editing software being used to throw us a curveball, and it does so quite well. Each of these crashes, by my best guess, is a two-car crash where the “other” car has been removed from the scene using the video version of photoshop. Much like Adobe’s powerful software can be used to alter reality, this software does the same thing, except with moving footage instead of still photos.
So what is the point of this wizardry? Well, I can only assume it’s to demonstrate how easily footage can be manipulated, and that it may not be the infallible evidence we often assume it to be. Video is often admitted as evidence in court and used to decide the fates of those on trial while rarely being scrutinized for tampering, at least that I’ve ever heard about. I’m sure there have been cases of video evidence tampering, but it’s not something you hear about often and this collection of crash footage certainly shows that it can be done and done convincingly.
Of course, this could just be a project that was created by an editor just to prove that he could do it. There may be no ulterior motive or bigger picture at play here, but instead just a way to show off. There are plenty of artists who photoshop just to flex their muscles and show off their skills, and this could be nothing more than that.
Either way, sit back and hit that play button and see for yourself just how good well this footage has been tweaked. If you look closely, there are a couple of tell-tale signs that give away the editing, but only those looking closely will catch them, and even fewer will realize they mean the footage has been edited.
