Mustang ALMOST WRECKS Then Sets World Record?
Talk about ta day at the track going from good to bad to amazing all in the span of a few passes. The guys at RareFab built this Mustang for the owner of The Shop CT, James Kakaletris with hopes of dipping into the 7 second zone on a stock transmission, something that had never been done before.
The first pass off the trailer showed that the car was quite literally knocking on the door of the vaunted 7-second zone when the scoreboards flashed 8.01 seconds, an ridiculous ET considering how docile the car sounds at idle.
In fact, looking at the car as it sits, the only real indicator of the car’s potential is the wheel and tire combo, which is hardly over the top as far as drag kits go, and the rollcage. Oh and the parachute hanging off the rear bumper. Other than that, the car looks almost completely stock. Under the hood, things are a little more obvious, thanks to the Armageddon twin turbo kit feeding the MPR-built engine. With Palm Beach Dyno handling the tuning, the car is putting the power down really well through the stock 6R80 transmission, that is going above and beyond the call of duty to stand up to what has to be quadruple digit horsepower numbers.
After the 8.01 pass, the car lays down another couple of passes in the 8.0 range, likely a tad slower due to the temperature creeping up in the middle of the day. Then on one pass the car breaks loose and actually spins across the track when the throttle got stuck wide open and the driver was unable to reign it in.
After the spin, many would have packed it up and called it a day, but the team decided to make one last attempt at the 7’s, and it all came together when the scoreboard lit up, showing an elapsed time of 7.97 second, earning this group the distinction of putting together the first factory transmission Mustang in the 7’s!
