NHRA – Matt Hagan Makes it Two-in-a-Row With the WIN in Phoenix
NHRA’s stars made the relatively short trip from Pomona to Phoenix for the second stop on the 2017 tour at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park, and Funny Car driver Matt Hagan seems to have loaded up the momentum that carried him to the Winternationals win and brought it with him.
The likable wheelman from Christianburg, VA unloaded his Sandvik-sponsored flopper at Wild Horse Pass and continued his march toward perfection, extending his streak of round wins to 8 of 8 by taking out Ron Capps in a stellar side-by-side final frame, 3.87 to 3.88. Hagan – driving for the super-team of Don Schumacher Racing – is only the second funny car driver to win the first two races of the season twice, and carries a 62 point lead across the country to Gainesville, FL for the Gatornationals.
Congrats go out to Hagan, crew chief Dickie Venables and the whole Sandvik team for kicking off the season in such impressive fashion!
