NHRA Today: Justin “Big Chief” Shearer talks about Indy NHRA debut in new interview

Our friend Justin “Big Chief” Shearer is ready to make his NHRA debut this weekend at this weekend’s 62nd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. The world’s biggest drag race is no joke. Running as a part of NHRA’s J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series is no small feat. Many people, including Big Chief, have dreamt of taking on the big dogs like Scotty Cannon and Ed Hoover. When asked about racing, this is what he said.

“That’s all I want to do. That’s all I can think about. I want to get in the burnout box. I want to do a big gnarly burnout in front of 100,000 people in Indianapolis.” – Justin “Big Chief” Shearer

The star of Discovery Channel’s reality television series Street Outlaws has been a big advocate of racing on the street for years. He even had a run in with the NHRA after they revoked his racing license. Their relationship has made a full 180. He is ready to go to the track and show everybody that he isn’t limited to the street. He can do it all! Running an NHRA legal 37psi, he is a little limited, but we have faith that he’ll overcome it and put down some incredible times. He’s gunning for the world’s fastest Pontiac record previously set by his engine builder Rodney Butler. With test passes dangerous close to that record, we know he’ll pull it off. He already took the title in the 1/8 and this weekend he may just take it in the 1/4.

Big Chief going from not racing NHRA to the biggest, baddest race in the country is definitely a big jump, but if anybody can land on there feat it would be Chief. He was fast with his steel-bodied LeMans he called The Crow, but the Crowmod is even faster and one of the baddest Pontiacs on the planet. Watch this weekend on FOX sports 1 & 2 as he embarks on his first NHRA journey. He may have a hard time taking down the 33 other competitors in the Pro Mod class, but if he gets the World Fastest Pontiac record while racing a bunch of blown Hemi’s, I’m sure he won’t be disappointed.
