Nissan GT-R Goes Airborne Before Flipping Over Backward at Nurburgring

During the course of a race, one never knows what’s going to happen. This is especially true as the race track configurations get more and more complicated.

When it comes to complex racing surfaces, we look no further than the Nurburgring to really display a challenge. Many who have competed on the surface will attest to the idea that the track offers a little bit of everything. In fact, it has become world-renowned for the different mix of features that one will encounter on their way around the ring. It really takes a complete car and driver to be able to rise the ranks of competitors here.

This time, we venture back to a 2015 incident with a Nissan GT-R that really got out of hand. While drivers blast their way through tough challenges around the track, catching various snags, this isn’t one that very many would have anticipated being an issue. In fact, we would guess that this appears to be something other than driver error accounting for the crazy situation that unfolds in front of our eyes here.

As the Nissan makes its way over a crest in what appears to be one of the faster sections of the track, things start bad and get worse. As the car makes its way over the top of the hill, the nose lifts and things progressively evolve. At one moment, We are watching what appears to be a small wheelie. The next, the front of the car completely lifts up, leaving the vehicle at the mercy of momentum and inertia. From here, the car goes airborne and does a backflip while in the air. Eventually, the car does come crashing down into a fence. The driver was believed to be OK but reports tell us that one spectator would receive fatal injuries from the incident.
