Norway’s $300 Million Cruise Ship Tunnel Will be the First of its Kind

Norway has gained quite a reputation for being a tough area to travel through. Sure, local travel might be doing just fine but for those looking to make their way from one end of the country to the other, it can be a little bit difficult. In fact, there are tons of obstacles getting in the way of long-distance travel.

To some, this might not seem like such a big deal. However, when looking at industries like freight and cruise ships, it certainly can end up being quite dangerous and costly. Having to navigate around the country instead of having a way through it is something that Norway is currently trying to overcome.

In a recent article, we wrote about the floating highway that the country will be using in order to assist ground transport. Another project that they are working on this time focuses on water transport. Reports say that a new project has just been approved for a tunnel that will create an entirely new shipping route. This tunnel is said to be big enough for a cruise ship and will be nearly 1 mile long. We would venture to say that that seems like a pretty awesome feat of engineering if you ask us. Just picturing what it will look like is exciting and it’ll be interesting to see how it actually turns out.

In terms of the product project itself, the tunnel is scheduled to take 3 to 4 years to complete. It will cost the country about $300 million but we’re sure that it should open up a whole variety of possibilities for those traveling by boat. In the long run, this investment is probably something that would make a lot of sense for not only the country but also those who are just passing through to make the world that much more accessible.
