OKC Small Tire Cash Days 2018. $6,000 Pot!

If you’ve been around the drag racing world at all for the past few years, you’ve almost certainly noticed the rise of “cash days” type events. While they’re really not much different than a typical shootout, the popularity of Street Outlaws has led to a huge increase in the number of events using the term to help draw racers and spectators alike, especially when they’re held on a track.

However, the guys that started it all hold a couple of events each year, one for cars on big tires and one for cars on small tires. The annual small tire cash days was held recently and Big Rob, a longtime fixture in the 405 street racing scene, was there to capture all the action and share with us.

With sixteen cars on hand representing several states and with a variety of combinations of power adders, there’s a little something here for everybody, from classic Detroit muscle cars to pickup trucks to the ubiquitous Fox Body Mustang. There’s big blocks, small blocks, nitrous and even a bed-mounted turbo setup on one of the trucks, so there’s no shortage of diversity in this crowd.

Things kick off in one location, but the cops show up and the action has to pause and reset at another spot, where the second and final round takes place. Why is the second round the final round of racing, you ask? Because when the dust settled after round 2, all 4 cars left standing represented the OKC area.

Instead of beating on their cars to determine a winner, the four remaining drivers opted to split the $6,000 purse and declare the 405 as the winner instead of one individual. The guys split up the money and pose for photos then head home to enjoy the win.
