On-Board Footage Shows How Firefighters Have to Drive on Way to Emergency
One of the first things that you learn about driving is that when you hear sirens and see flashing lights behind you, at least the sirens and flashing lights from a firetruck, you’d better get out of the way! However, after you gain some experience with driving, you might notice that not everybody is as good at doing this as other people. In fact, every once in a while, you might find yourself screaming at somebody to get out of the way, wondering why they didn’t notice the big red truck with a blaring horn coming in hot behind them.
Seeing something like this might lead you to wonder what it’s like for firefighters who find themselves behind the wheel of one of these massive trucks on a regular basis. You’d think that, with the flamboyant lights and sirens, it would be enough for most people to get out of the way but driving something that big around the city where plenty of people are probably in a world of their own has to be a little bit of a challenge no matter how many flashing lights the truck is strapped up with.
If you follow along with the video below, you’ll be able to get the experience of a lifetime, well, at least the video version, as a conveniently placed camera allows you to go for a ride in a firetruck, seeing what it’s like for these workers to race their way to an emergency and what kinds of adversity they might have to deal with as they make their way through traffic and other obstacles that are standing starkly in the way of getting to somewhere where the crew will really need to be in a timely manner. Sometimes, getting that goal accomplished might be easier said than done.
