Ram Air IV GTO vs Chevelle SS 454 LS6 – 1/4 mile Drag Race
Every last era seems to have cars that have some sort of emotional attachment to them or maybe have one factor or another that really makes them cool. When you look back on some of the muscle cars that came out in the late 60s and early 70s, you really can’t help but fall in love with what a lot of these things have to offer. All that iron making its way down the track just omits this kind of energy that you really can’t help but be attracted to. It’s sort of a confidence and charisma all wrapped up in one handsome package, to put it eloquently.
In this video, we check out a couple of arguably the coolest cars to ever do it and it’s a pair of really rare machines to boot. In one lane, we have a 1969 Ram Air IV Pontiac GTO and in the other, a 1970 LS6 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454. The Chevelle is sporting 450 hp thanks to the big and bad 454 and the GTO is said to be cranking out about 370 hp with 400 cubes under the hood at its disposal.
With all of the technology that we see out there these days and cars seemingly going fast without breaking a sweat, it can be really easy to be desensitized to what fast is but when you think about the fact that these cars are quickly trucking in on 50-years-old and that the technology under the hood matches that age, it’s pretty impressive to see them go this quickly.
If you follow along down the video below, you’ll really get a dose of old-school cool as these two machines go at one another with the aim of coming out on top. These battles are incredibly neat to look at as it basically puts you in a time machine and takes you back to an era that many would argue offered performance cars that were simply better.
