Rivian Announces AWD Electric Pickup, We’re Blown Away With The Specs
I think that’s pretty much unanimous in thinking that Tesla is the go-to manufacturer when it comes to an electric vehicle that you actually would be proud to be behind the wheel of. However, as time goes on and technology becomes more available, it’s without a doubt that we are going to see even more companies trying to make their way into the electric car space. At this point in time, obviously, we haven’t seen anybody sell fully electric vehicle successfully with a widespread mass produced model outside of Tesla. It seems like there have been some valiant attempts that would stop at just that.
The latest of trying take a crack at this market might just be a vehicle manufacturer that is coming in hot with the truck that provides some pretty impressive statistics, on paper. We’re going to have to wait until it actually comes out to see how this thing does and if it holds up to those numbers reliably, but if it’s pretty close, this thing is going to definitely attract some attention.
The truck of that goes by the name of the Rivian R1T is the latest to take aim at Tesla’s reign over the electric industry. With a recent press release, we’ve been told all about the promises provided by the truck that they’re due to released by 2020. The vehicle is to be propelled by an electric motor per wheel, offering an all-wheel-drive package that is sure to be pretty intense. Also important to the electric model is that it is said to be able to travel with 400 miles to a charge with the 180kWh option, lower packages are also available that offer 300 or 230 mph range. In addition, you’ll find that a 3-foot wading depth should make this thing versatile in all forms of terrain. However, perhaps the most exciting fact of the matter with this thing is that it goes it 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds with 750 hp on tap. That’s good to outrun something like a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk or Lamborghini Urus, that is, unless you want to hop into the sports car category, at which point, you’ll find the R1T swinging with the Corvette C6 ZR1 in the 0-60 time category.
If something like this might tickle your fancy, you’re going to have to make sure to bring your pocketbook. At a $69k base, this thing certainly isn’t budget friendly, especially when you consider that it’s coming in at about $100k loaded, but on the other hand, when you look at the market and what you’re getting, this might just be the best deal yet.
