Roger Moore and His James Bond Cars

They say deaths come in threes and once again that grim adage has proven true. Fresh on the heels of the untimely passing of rock vocalist Chris Cornell and MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden came the news that actor Roger Moore had passed away following a brief battle with cancer. During his lengthy screen career, Moore was best known for his stint as James Bond, the suave spy with a penchant for beautiful women and cool cars.

As the longest running Bond actor, Moore had the opportunity to really dive into the role an develop his own take on the super spy’s persona. It was Moore who transformed the role into that of a debonair playboy with a tack-sharp wit and equally-quick mind for navigating the situations 007 often finds himself in. As Bond, Roger would always have a gadget or diversion on hand to help him when it seemed all hope was lost, and he delivered his one-liners with perfect comedic flair.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Bond if there weren’t some cool cars on the silver screen, with many of the cars in the franchise taking on an almost co-starring role in the films. In the short clip below, you can see a few of the rides that Moore drove as Bond throughout his dozen years and seven movies as the title character in the franchise. From the maroon turbo Lotus Esprit to beige MG’s, Bond’s cars are always of European manufacture and, in most cases, are high end rides with an air of exclusivity, though he did spend some time behind the wheel of a Citroen 2CV, which can be seen in midair in the attached video.

In 2004, Moore was selected as “Best Bond” in the franchise’s long history. He leaves a legion of fans who adored him as James Bond and his many other starring roles on both big screen and small.
