SEMA Top 10 – #6 Vintage GT350 Race Car
Top 10 of SEMA 2015 – #6 Vintage GT350 Racer
New Mustangs took over SEMA 2015. You couldn’t walk a row without seeing a 6th gen. A lot of manufacturers are trying to get their aftermarket parts for these out there and SEMA is the place to do it. I like the new ‘Stang, but especially the GT350 and GT350R. I’ve always had a thing for the GT350 since the original. Ford didn’t just show off their new GT350’s, they put a 1965 model right in next to a new one.
From what I’ve read, the car is chassis #34. Brian Jackson, the brother of Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson, owned the car, but wanted more. Along with SCCA Champion Don Roberts, he transformed it into the GT350-R race car. These cars were built to be race ready from the factory. They had a high capacity oil pan, four-point roll cage, fiberglass front apron, electric fuel pumps and more to produce 325 to 360 horsepower. Jackson raced the car in vintage racing series until his death in 1997. Now the car is stored in Craig Jackson’s awesome collection and sworn to his son.
With all of the new tech surrounding me, it was nice to see a tried and true race car that showed the roots of the current pony cars. With this car posed in front of the Ford GT, I was like a kid in the candy store. Kudos to Ford for bringing this old school twist to SEMA 2015.
