Semi-Truck Brakes FAIL – Uses Emergency Runaway Truck Lane
Semi-Truck Brakes FAIL – Uses Emergency Runaway Truck Lane
If you’ve ever been through the mountains of West Virginia, you’d know how many steep ups and downs are hiding out in the roads that travel through them.
So many declines can prove to be tough on the brakes, even catastrophic, especially when you have a heavy load like this semi-truck does.
For this purpose, roads will have special areas for runaway trucks to slow down. Many of us have never seen one of the emergency lanes used… until now.
Even though the emergency runaway lane is in place, it’s still a scary sight and probably a scary feeling to be barreling downhill with no brakes! Check out the video below as this trucker faces just that situation and comes out on top!
A runaway truck ramp, runaway truck lane, escape lane, emergency escape ramp, or truck arrester bed is a traffic device that enables vehicles which are having braking problems to safely stop. It is typically a long, sand-or gravel -filled lane connected to a steep downhill grade section of a main road, and is designed to accommodate large truck or buses. The ramp allows a moving vehicle’s kinetic energy to be dissipated gradually in a controlled and relatively harmless way, helping the operator to stop it safely without a violent crash.
