Sinkhole Almost Takes Another Corvette, What Are the Odds?
After seeing a story like this unfold, it’s beginning to seem a little bit like Corvettes and sinkholes have some sort of cosmic relationship. It was only a couple of years ago that a massive sinkhole would form under the National Corvette Museum. As such, an entire collection of cars would fall in. Among these cars, we found several classics and and incredibly rare collector Corvettes. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but the damage was still incredibly devastating.
Just a couple of days ago, a sinkhole would almost claim another Corvette! When the owner of this fifth-generation rag top Corvette would come back to their car, they wouldn’t find it exactly as they left it. Instead, a massive hole had formed underneath the car. This would leave the machine literally hanging in the balance. The rear tires of the vehicle were still planted right where they had been parked. However, the front bumper would end up touching the ground and the front wheels were hanging over the hole.
CapeCod.com was on scene to capture video of the car that had just barely escaped the 15-foot wide sinkhole. They say that the Corvette was able to be rescued from the situation by firefighters who had the help of a heavy-duty wrecker. We’re sure that the recovery was nerve-racking for the owner.
Sure, sinkholes are not all that unheard of. However, the idea that more than one would form underneath of a Corvette is probably astronomically rare. For this unlucky Corvette owner, though, that would be exactly the situation they would be forced to deal with. Hopefully, this is a scene that we will never have to see again. It’s pretty alarming to see a sports car hanging in the balance with a hole ready to swallow it into the earth. Luckily, nobody was injured in the incident.
