Smashing a New Aluminum F150 with a Sledgehammer!!
When folks questioned the rigidity of the new aluminum bodied Ford F-150, there was no other option but for someone to come out with the end all be all test to see exactly how such a truck would stand up to some abuse. With this kind of idea, there’s always going to be some controversey so I think that folks will be looking for evidence to go in one direction or the other.
What better to prove how dent resistant a material is than to take a sledgehammer to it? Check it out as this unique brand of product testing shows how well the body panels will hold up to the threat of stones, shopping carts, and other road hazards. The aluminum construction is also said to reduce weight which will help out with the hauling statistics as well but the drawback is the expense of repairs and the questionable durability of how aluminum will stand up to a collision and all of the abuse that a truck goes up against, especially when you compare it to a steel construction.
Check out the video below that puts the newer body to the test in one of the most extreme ways possible and is followed up with cost of the body work. After weighing out all of the options it looks like this is one expensive truck to fix, but if you can keep it away from all of the threats, we think you’ll be alright! Be sure to tell us what you think of the use of material that Ford has been using for a little while now in order to attempt to bring their trucks into the modern age. Do you think that they will continue to use materials like aluminum in the future or is something a little bit more durable in their crystal ball?
