Sprint Car flies into Starter Stand

Racing Sprint Cars on dirt has always had the added sense of danger, much less traction with a bunch of cars smashed onto a small track constantly bumping into each other, but this is dangerous to the driver. You wouldn’t think that it adds any more danger to the guy waiving the flag to start the race.  Well this video might change your mind.  At  Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, a USAC Sprint Car hits a pile up of over 6 cars and launches up into the starter’s stand almost 20 feet in the air.

Luckily the quick reaction time of the Starter himself, he was able to dodge the car flying at him as it hit the guard posts in front of the stand.  The camera did not flinch though and it did take the hit.  Watch this extremely close call with death here.
