Street Outlaws Kye Kelley in the Shocker Wins Cash Days at the Dirty South No Prep Series Opener

Kye Kelley proved long ago that when his car is working well, he’s nearly impossible to beat. At the 2017 Dirty South No Prep season opener at Hub City Dragway, Kye jumped in the Cash Days race and showed that, right now, The Shocker is working very well!

With his massive Pat Musi powerplant hitting on all eight and the chassis hooking hard and going straight, nobody was able to slow down the McComb, MS native, who took out some of the biggest names from the street racing and no prep worlds. In the first round, Kelley took out the Swamp Thing, Chris Taggart’s consistently quick Chevy II Wagon. In round two, he tangled with a gorgeous nitrous-injected 1957 Chevy. Both cars had traction issues, with the ’57 crossing the centerline and handing Kye the win by default, though he also reached the finish line first anyway.

Up next was The Godfather Camaro, driven by Barry Nicholson, car that should look familiar to fans of Street Outlaws: New Orleans. Nicholson and Kelley both launched hard and made great side-by-side runs, but Kye eased ahead at the stripe to take the win. The fourth round run was nearly identical, as the Shocker was just able to nose out the resurgent Probe out of the Bird Boyz camp.

In the finals, Kye lined up with Kayla Morton, who’s made a name for herself over the past year or so with a string late-round finishes. Morton jumped out to a lead and appeared to be headed to victory lane, but she had to lift just past halftrack and Kye, who had drifted toward the centerline and had to lift himself, coasted past to turn on the winlight.

Cash Days at the DSNP was some of the best racing we’ve seen on a non-prepped surface, and we hope to see the same type of action at the next event in Clay City, Kentucky next weekend!
