Street Outlaws Update: Derek and The Silver Unit Drop Nitrous, Get Boost (IT SCREAMS!)

One of the neat things about Street Outlaws is that no two seasons are going to be the same. Over the course of the life cycle of one car, it will go through about a million changes. Some of these changes are small like alterations in tuning. Other changes can be downright groundbreaking as competitors change major pieces of hardware. Apply this to a whole field of cars and the competition gets rather fierce.

For Derek and the Silver Unit Camaro, he would go through one of those massive changes. Instead of the nitrous that was previously on board, the car is now boasting a nasty ProCharger setup. The car will retain the big block, though.

Derek took to Facebook to show off the new combo and say a few words about getting it dialed in. As it turns out, there’s a bit of legwork that goes alongside mixing things up like this.

Via the Silver Unit Racing Facebook page: “Wow what a long but exciting last few days!!! We left Sunday morning to head to Kentucky to get the new combo tuned up right. Eric Gash Andrew DiMartino and the Haltech crew exceeded all my expectations. All the wiring is simple and looks great.

After a couple little hiccups(starter) we got it going and Eric started to working his magic. We had a number in mind that we wanted and hit that with the small gearset and no heat in the plugs. It’s super safe and 7-750rwhp from what I had before.

It’s always easy to make good HP when you have a team like Haltech behind you. Mark Bevan you have an awesome team here in Kentucky…

…I’m extremely happy and can’t wait to get the other new goodies on the car to start making passes”

Down in the video below, we get to watch and listen to the car as it unleashes some serious muscle on the hub dyno.

Here are a couple pulls from yesterday and the actual rwhp numbers the highest it made. Had to put a hell of a load on it to keep it from zipping through to fast. I’m extremely happy and can’t wait to get the other new goodies on the car to start making passes

It’ll be interesting to see how this combo reacts in comparison to the way that the car was previously set up.
