Tesla Driver Tricks the Autopilot Safety System with an Orange
Before diving into this one, I think that it’s safe to say that this is a little trick that is probably better to watch on video instead of going home and doing it for yourself. Digging into something like this is just asking for injuries so we would highly recommend against it. However, it seems like this little hack with something as simple as an orange got this guy around what Tesla’s engineers design to be a safety feature to try and keep you out of harm’s way and ultimately make sure that you’re aware with your eyes on the road, even when the autopilot feature is in play.
However, with this video, it’s unveiled that there is a simple workaround to using the sensors that require pressure on the steering wheel to make sure that you’re still awake and paying attention. Instead of keeping his hands on the wheel, which would be the safe way of doing this, this individual had decided to cram an orange on the sensor, making it think that he was on the wheel the whole time and therefore, allowing the car to use the autopilot feature to chauffer him through the desert while he goes on about his business in other ways that don’t include safe driving.
At the end of the day, it might seem like this safety features is only in place so that Tesla doesn’t get sued, however, it’s definitely something that we would never recommend trying out for yourself. Maybe, there will be a day where Tesla will get their auto pilot ironed out to the point where people don’t have to use a workaround in order to use it and are actually able to get behind the wheel without too much to worry about as to kick up their productivity a notch or maybe snag some Zs.
