The 2018 Mustang GT is Here and We Have Actual Dyno Numbers

While, on the surface, cars like the 2018 Ford Mustang GT might share a lot of cues with the previous year’s car, it’s the subtle differences that make it. Under the hood, things are just a little bit different. This year, the 5.0L v8 under the hood promises to crank out 25 more horsepower than last year which amounts to a grand total of 460hp of the crack, according to Ford. Now, with with the engine in the car, it’s kind of difficult to measure the crank horsepower, but we can put the car on the dyno rollers to measure how much power from that 460 made it all the way to the rear tires.

When all is said and done, this Mustang really roars to life on the Carlyle Racing dyno rollers, cranking out just a hair short of 386 hp and 370 torque. Via the very loose “15% rule” that says you lose about that much when the power gets to the tire, the car is pretty much right on par for where it should be. Now, I’m not sure about you, but this has definitely colored me impressed. These days, when everything seems to be a hop skip and a jump away from making at thousand horsepower, it can be easy to take numbers like these for granted but a factory production car making almost 400 horsepower to the rear tires is really something to be proud of. This is quite a generation of automobile technology to be a part of.


If you follow along down in the video below, you can hear exactly what this thing is singing as it gets that throttle pounded into the floor and is able to make some pretty impressive numbers. As you know, numbers don’t always mean that it’s going to be a good performer with lots of longevity when it gets put to test but this is definitely a good start and really has us incredibly excited to see exactly what the 2018 Mustang is going to be able to accomplish when people get their hands on it and really start stretching out the limits of the car.
