The 2021 C8 Corvette Will be Offered With an Option That AddsOver 10% of its Base Price – Worth the Extra $7,500?

Sometimes, there are options that can be pretty expensive when ordering a new car. One might not think about these things initially. After all, they do just advertise the base price.

To get new orders off and running, the C8 Corvette was advertised from $59,995. That number seemed rather groundbreaking as most of the industry and the watercooler alike thought it would be much more pricey. However, when it comes time to pick out the options, there’s little to no chance that the price is going to stay there. Instead, when figuring in all sorts of fees, that $60,000 figure probably won’t even be available to those who get a base model but I digress.

It’s going to be tough to avoid all of the expensive options and save money when ordering a C8 Corvette as there are surely all sorts of different fun choices littered throughout the ordering sheet. One of the choices that will have to be made is one of the basics in what kind of roof a buyer wants on their Corvette. Up until now, we have primarily seen the hardtop but moving forward, buyers will have the option to order a hardtop convertible.

The option seems pretty nice, only adding less than 80 lbs to the car while giving the driver the look of a hardtop but the functionality of a convertible. However, we were kind of surprised to hear that the option will come in with a price tag of $7,500. That’s quite the bit of bankroll to add a feature to a car.

By following along with the video below from Cars, Costs, and Technology, we check in with the option and hear a little bit of a rundown of what one might expect with a hardtop convertible versus a traditional hardtop. The Corvette is off to the races and has seen some early success. It doesn’t seem like GM has had a roadblock with orders but it’s going to be interesting to see how many people opt to spend this kind of money to get their Corvette exactly how they want it.
