The Decline of Hertz – What Happened to the World’s Most Popular Rental Car Company?

If we had to name one company that was synonymous with rental cars, we would probably think that Hertz is at the top of the list. There are few companies that really transcend beyond the rest and become one with the industry that they represent.

It just really seems like these companies have something figured out that has made their brand really stick out from the pack behind them. In a commodity industry like rental cars, that’s something that could be pretty difficult to do. However, the black and yellow branding of the company is known by people all over the world as the industry leader.

As it turns out, the company had a pretty unconventional rise. Perhaps even more unconventional is the path that they’ve taken once they became a household name.

It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the rental car company. Instead, this company has suffered its fair share of downs along with an absurd number of highs that they have been able to accomplish. In fact, the company has changed hands multiple times over its lifespan as well. As a brand that attempt attempts to continuously evolve, there have been some off-the-wall ideas along the way. Most recently, though, we watched as one of the biggest brands in the car rental industry has gone bankrupt.

Down below, we join in with a video from YouTube creator, Company Man, who outlines all of the roller coaster-like movements that have made the company what it is today. Even though it seems as if the brand is having a tough time at the moment, after changing hands again, we’re sure that it’s only a matter of time before they snap back to a respectable position in the market. This just goes to show how many industries have been affected by this pandemic. Not even the rental car companies are going to be able to make it out unscathed.
