The Griswolds Are Not Playing Around This Year

We’ve seen some crazy stuff, but this ranks right up there with some of the most over-the-top scenes of all time. We all know the Griswolds, the lovably unlucky family from the classic holiday film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and their trademark Ford Taurus station wagon that dutifully transported them from one Christmas disaster to the next.

One of the most memorable scenes in the movie portrays the family trudging through the woods in search of the perfect Christmas tree. No tree farms or artificial trees for the Griswolds, no instead Clark and the family had to find the perfect tree growing in the wild. After quite some time sloshing through the forest, Clark has a “Hallelujah” moment when he finds the perfect specimen. As the family gazes upon the tree in all of it’s natural splendor, Russ Griswold harmlessly asks his dad if he brought a saw, and Clark’s reaction says it all.

From there, the scene cuts to the tree driving down the highway with a car strapped to the bottom of it, complete with a massive ball of roots still attached, implying that they’d yanked the tree out instead of cutting it.

Well, somebody, somewhere decided to recreate this scene, with a bigger car and an ever bigger tree. Whoever out there decided to pull of this stunt, we commend you for your bravery, as this had to be nearly impossible to pull off. With a tree that looks to be some 50’ or taller strapped to the roof of a Ford station wagon – this one of the LTD variety – headed down the road at a pretty good rate of speed, we can’t help but think how dangerous this is. However, it’s pretty hilarious too, especially considering it’s already decorated with several hundred dangling balls. It’s that time of year for sure and what better way to get in the Christmas spirit?!
