The Most Powerful Road Train in The World is Packing 6,000 Horsepower

There are big rigs, and then there’s THIS! While Australia is known for its road trains, specially-equipped power units designed to pull up to three full-length trailers across Australia’s sparse desert highways.

This, however, is a road train on steroids, specially assembled to haul a monstrous transformer into an area of South Africa in desperate need of electricity. The transformer weights an astounding 406 tons, will bring some much needed relief to the strained electrical grid in the area, but there’s the pesky ordeal of transporting it 850 km across a mountain range. Any typical big rig, even the Australian behemoths, would be crushed under the massive cargo, so the South African team tasked to transport the transformer brought in six of the most powerful trucks on the planet, each capable of pulling 80 tons, and a custom-built trailer to move the precious payload.

The final spec sheet on the rig itself reads like that of an actual train, stretching 160 meters in length and topping the scales at 1,100 tons, while the combined output of the trucks totals 6,000 horsepower. And watching the journey across the mountains, they needed every single one of those ponies to get the job done, but they did it! Check it out in the video below and let us know what you think about this road train, the most powerful of its kind on the planet.
