The New No. 4 Corvette Race Car Just Burned Down
GM’s Corvette Racing program has enjoyed some real success over the years, but this time the news is less than stellar.
On the track at Daytona, the new C7R erupted into flames in turn 14 and appears to have suffered some serious damage. The fire looks to have ravaged the cutting-edge road racer from front to back, thought much of the car may be saved and reused to rebuild the #4 car. As you can see, though, the front half is likely a total loss, with temps soaring high enough to shatter the windshield and splinter the composite bodywork. Just look at the carnage and it’s easy to see this was an intense fire.
Of course, the team has plenty of funding and will most likely return to action as quickly as another car can be readied for competition. They may even have a spare car on standby just for a situation like this. Rest assured, when the #4 C7R does return to action, it will be running up front as the Corvette Racing team typically does!
