The World’s First To Market Helicopter / Car Hybrid

The day has arrived, folks. You can now buy a flying car. I suppose the Gyro Drive would be more accurately described as a helicopter that you can drive on the street instead of a car that can take to the skies, but regardless, if you can fly wherever you want to go, does your vehicle really need to do much more than cruise to your final destination once you’ve landed nearby?

The Gyro Drive offers up some pretty impressive numbers, especially for the price, which comes in under $70,000. In the air, the personal chopper can reach speeds of 112 MPH and can fly up to 375 miles on a tank of gas. When you return the ride to land, it can drive along on the road at up to 25 MPH, which isn’t exactly blazing. However, as demonstrated in the video, if you’re flying most of the time, as intended, then it’s not that big a deal to land close to where you’re going and just take a short drive to park or fill up with gas. The biggest issue with driving is going to be minding the propeller, which does extend out front by quite a bit when the car is earthbound.

Of course, we have to assume there’s some extensive training that is needed before the regular citizens of the world take to the skies, but the controls don’t look to be too complicated and hopefully can be learned quickly. We have to admit we didn’t think the first flying cars would actually look more like helicopters, nor did we think they would be so reasonably priced. While it seems they’re only available in the Czech Republic for the time being, we are hopeful the two-seater personal aircraft makes it way to American markets soon. We’re already imagining a Speed Society-emblazoned Gyro Drive buzzing around San Diego checking out the world below!
