This is what it takes to start a Fairbanks Morse heavy oil engine
If you thought that sitting around and waiting for your car to warm up during the winter is a pain in the neck, just imagine how much more difficult it would be if you had to go through all of this to get it started!
This time, we check in with a Fairbanks Morse heavy oil engine and the process that’s necessary to get a beast like this up and running. It’s a long process, we can tell you that.
First, the engine has to be rotated back to what’s called the “firing point” before it is moved with an external compressed air source before being fired up. It might be archaic but the task at hand here was to have a brute that would make good power and last forever. From the looks of it – mission accomplished.
Check out the video below that takes us through the procedure that you’ll be happy not to do every morning when you’re cranking up your car and getting ready to go to work!
