This Molecular Programming of a Steel Blade is Badass

While the vast majority of knife blades are mass produced, there are still some craftsmen out there who make them by hand, and the results are nothing short of works of art.

This video is eleven minutes of footage of a process most people couldn’t figure out one step of, much less the whole process beginning to end. This knife maker starts with several steel blanks and over the course of many very precise steps, melds them into a gorgeous Damascus steel knife blade by the end of the video.

These knives are some of the most beautiful blades ever forged, each one being as unique as a fingerprint due to the intricate process by which they’re created. Damascus blades are also more durable than typical production-quality knives thanks to their molecular makeup, which is strengthened throughout the forging process.
