This Simple Mistake Cost YouTuber Parker Nirenstein $10,000
In case you didn’t know, exotic cars are not only expensive to purchase, they’re pretty expensive to maintain and repair as well. This is a great look at just how expensive they can be, in case you’re thinking about picking up a new Lamborghini or Ferrari in the near future. Parker from Vehicle Virgins hit the track in his trademark green Huracan and laid down a few laps, only to have his day end prematurely after an issue in the braking system caused him to have to shut down for the day. He’d hoped the issue was simply needing new pads, however, as you will see in the video below, Parker wasn’t quite so lucky.
The front passenger side of the Huracan’s braking system apparently experienced slightly faster wear than the other three corners, leading to the brake pad actually wearing all the way down to bare metal. Anybody who’s ever had this happen – this can happen on any car with disk brakes, regardless of cost or manufacturer – knows that is basically a death sentence for the brake rotor. Metal on metal, or in the case of the Huracan, metal on carbon ceramic, almost always results in deep grooves being engraved into the rotor, rendering it trash. For most of us, this is a mistake that might cost us a few hundred dollars, maybe up to a thousand dollars or so depending on the make and model of the car and who does the repair. For Parker, though, the damage is much steeper, earning him a hefty repair bill that’s entirely too close to 5 figures.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, he had to wait for the rotor to be shipped from Germany, since there were no Huracan rotors available in the US at the time. Hopefully Parker learned to pay very close attention to that wear indicator light and keep a closer check on his brake pads in the future so he can avoid this situation and another costly repair.
