Turbo K Civic Hatch vs HellCat Challenger With a $ 4,000 POT

There are races where the car makes the difference, and races where the driver is the deciding factor. While most drivers want to be the difference maker, there are times when things go bad and there’s nobody to blame but the man behind the wheel, and you have to take those screw ups right along with the times when you do everything right.

This clip, from YouTuber iAmTaiBoogie, shows a $4,000 street race between a Hellcat Challenger and a wicked Honda Civic hatch. Just looking at the level of modification on the Honda makes it very clear right off the bat that this car is not to be taken lightly. Slicks up front, gutted interior, and an insane sounding engine should serve notice to any competitor that this car is coming correct. The guy in the other lane has to know what’s coming, despite a likely horsepower advantage, he’s also close to double the weight of the Civic, meaning the Challenger is at a huge disadvantage, especially on the street where traction is going to be limited. A lighter car is easier to get rolling on the street than one weighing more, so that should mean this Civic has more than enough to take down the Challenger. And he does, until the driver drops the ball.

After an epic prep session that includes traction compound and fire to build heat into the roadway, the cars line up to throw down. The starter pulls them up to the line, then hits the flashlight, and the Civic jumps out to a full car length lead. Through the first three gears, the Honda holds the lead and appears to be en route to a fairly convincing win, but when it comes time to drop the shifter into 4th, the driver can’t seem to get the transmission to cooperate. Whether it be from an issue with the trans itself or if the driver just missed the shift, the Honda is dead in the water and the Challenger drives right by to take the win and the four grand.

You can bet the Civic’s crew will be looking for a rematch, either with a new transmission in place, or a new driver behind the the wheel.
